Orchesis Dance Company has their winter performance
Cal Poly’s dance program, Orchesis Dance Company, had their winter performance of a routine called “Falling Forward” on Jan. 20-21 and 26-28.
“We had auditions the very first week of school,” said psychology junior Grace Schweitzer. “We had Tuesday night info meeting of the first week, Thursday night of the first week was auditions and starting that Monday, we started rehearsing.”
According to senior business administration student, Grace Schwager, the theme “Falling Forward” was chosen because it is incredibly relevant to college students.
“[Falling Foward] is about how the world is moving forward, and all of us are moving forward in our lives,” said Schwager. “We’re in college, we’re entering adulthood, and sometimes it feels like it’s moving quickly, and it’s a little bit falling forward. You might stumble along the way, but when you don’t fall, you don’t find the great experiences that could come from that.”
Being a part of Orchesis goes way beyond practicing and performing.
“It creates such a safe place for you to go and a family environment,” said Schweitzer.
For Schwager, “it’s definitely been the best part of [her] college experience.”
“Falling Forward” is not the only performance the group has this year; they also have a spring dance concert coming up in May.
Auditions for the winter dance performance occur during week one of fall quarter every year, and auditions for the spring dance concert happen during week ten of winter quarter. For more information, visit @orchesisdancecp on Instagram or their Facebook page.
