‘Twas the morning of Shabang: Last minute tips to prepare for the festival
‘Twas the morning of Shabang, and all throughout San Luis Obispo, eager attendees are gearing up for what many call the best weekend of the year. Outfits are carefully laid out, playlists are filled with artists on the lineup and group chats buzz with plans for meeting spots and schedules. Here’s how to get ready for the festival.
1. Get familiar with the lineup
With more than 50 live performances across the weekend, knowing the artists ahead of time can make the experience even more memorable. Many students are already building playlists and picking favorites.
Isabella Pecharich, a public health sophomore said, “I’ve been listening to the artists. A few I’ve been liking are Annie Dirusso, Tops and Makeout Reef.”
2. Pick out your best festival outfits
Everyone knows festival fashion is part of the experience. Students have been flooding thrift stores and digging through their closet for their most eccentric pieces. Prioritizing comfort, swag and shoes you can dance in is the key to success.
“I’ll be trying on my outfits, laying them out, washing my hair, self tanning and getting good sleep,” political science sophomore Lily Neil said.
3. Plan how you’ll get there safely
Whether it’s taking the shuttle or arranging a drop-off, having safe transportation figured out ahead of time can prevent unnecessary stress and keep the focus on the music. Rideshare services will be crazy, so now it’s time to cash in a favor.
4. Coordinate your team
Make sure you know who you’re going with, set meeting points and have a plan in case you get separated while frolicking around. Stick with people who will dance with you. The art displays and food vendors are great standout spots to meet at!
5. Rest and recharge before the weekend
Two days of nonstop music and movement requires energy, making sleep and hydration essential in the lead-up to the festival.
Julianna Hornung, a music senior: “I’ll definitely get to bed early, hydrate, lay out my outfit and jam out to The Backseat Lovers and Chris Lake!”
6. Come ready to enjoy it!
Practice your dance moves, bring your most colorful fits and prepare for a full weekend in the hills.
Cal Poly students are doing everything they can to make the most of the weekend ahead. With a little preparation and the right mindset, Shabang weekend will be one to remember.
