Alternative artists Tomo Nakayama and Bryan John Appleby to perform in SLO tonight

Alternative indie pairing Tomo Nakayama and Bryan John Appleby is set to play at A Satellite of Love in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday.

This post-pandemic world for musicians and artists alike still remains a game of catching up: catching up with old friends, catching up on paused projects and especially catching up on touring. Nakayama and Appleby sat down several months ago in Seattle and decided it was time to bring their music out on a West Coast tour. 

The pair met in Seattle in 2007 while they were both pursuing music careers. Appleby said Seattle’s indie and folk scene at the time was “an ecosystem of really awesome music.”

They both would go on to release several projects, Appleby’s most recent being an album titled “Underwater Easy Breathing” and Nakayama’s being his 2021 single “On the Way.” 

Appleby has played around the area several times, but this will be Nakayama’s first time playing in San Luis Obispo. NPR described Nakayama’s music as consistently “complex, nuanced and emotionally compelling.”

“I’m really excited and I’m looking forward to it,” Nakayama said about playing his first SLO show.

Local musician Omen Moth will open the show. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
