Top 5 Albums to Look Forward to Over Summer (and some coming soon)
“Rock Candy Sweet” – Lana Del Ray
Scheduled release: To Be Determined
Lana Del Ray announced the release of “Rock Candy Sweet” after the release of her seventh studio album, “Chemtrails Over the Country Club,” in March. However, in April Del Ray announced the release of a second LP, “Blue Bannisters,” which is scheduled for release on July 4. Considering “Rock Candy Sweet” has still not been released, it’s safe to say that it may be released later this summer… hopefully along with “Blue Banisters.”
“Blue Weekend” – Wolf Alice
Scheduled release: June 4, 2021
Initially intended for release on June 11, the alternative rock band Wolf Alice bumped up the release of their third studio album “Blue Weekend” to June 4. The group have released three singles leading up to the release of the 11 track album, including it’s lead single “The Last Man on Earth” which came out on February 24.
Additionally, the group will be taking “Blue Weekend” on the road in 2022 with a string of tour dates in the UK and Ireland. This album is slightly less intense and aggressive as compared to their 2017 album, “Visions Of A Life,” however their same style and sound remains intact.
“Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land” – Marina
Scheduled release: June 11, 2021
Marina has come a long way since her “Electra Heart” era and, with each new release, she has yet to disappoint. While still maintaining her electric-pop sound, “Purge The Poison” and “Man’s World” give just a glimpse into the sound and lyrical depth that is to be expected of “Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land” as a whole.
Modest Mouse – The Golden Casket
Scheduled release: June 25, 2021
Modest Mouse announced the release of “The Golden Casket” – their first full length release since their 2015 album “Strangers to Ourselves.” The 12 song track list is currently available and the first single and second song, “We Are Between” is a promising start. With a modern spin on their distinctly indie-alternative sound, Modest Mouse have made it clear that they have experimented and grown over the past five years.
Billie Eilish – Happier Than Ever
Scheduled release: July 30, 2021
Possibly one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year from fans and critics alike, “Happier Than Ever” is set to be released at the end of July. After Eilish’s first studio album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” solidified her artistic talent, listeners have been hungry for more.
The first single, “Your Power” was released on April 29 and is a stripped down track that touches upon Eilish’s past relationships. This track emphasizes Eilish’s pure vocals and raw lyrics and we can only hope the rest of the album maintains this same momentum.
