Style and sentiment: What’s in a tote bag?
What is that? A briefcase? A backpack? A purse? No, it is a tote! Although tote bags have never been out of style, they have made a sudden return to the street. Totes are both trendy and practical, making them the perfect carrier for college students. Not only can a tote complete a look, but it can also be put to use in carrying all the necessities.
A lot of people sporting totes are carrying around the basics: computer, wallet, chapstick, hand sanitizer, mask, etc. But some people also carry around some less practical items in favor of something with sentimental value.
First-year communications major Maddie Peachey often chooses to carry her belongings in a tote, mentioning one specific object that she never leaves behind.
“I never leave without my water bottle,” said Peachey. “Not only does it hold a sentimental value as it was a gift from my senior night of varsity tennis, but it also has sentimental stickers on it. The stickers are from places I have amazing memories at with amazing people. An added plus is the fact that the water bottle motivates me to stay hydrated.”
Just like Peachey, first-year journalism major Kat Smith carries a personal object in her tote that she frequently uses.
“In my tote I typically carry around my phone, wallet and a book. You know, the basics,” said Smith. “But sometimes I will take my camera around and have it with me when I go on fun adventures. There is a significance to my camera since it can be easy to capture the moment in something of better quality than my iPhone.”
Whether you are on your way to class, headed to the beach or on a Central Coast adventure, totes are the perfect option to hold all your belongings — even those that are precious to you. All the essentials plus your favorite personal memento can be carried in your stylish tote.
