Student app brings In-N-Out to campus
For Cal Poly freshmen living on campus, getting tired of Vista Grande food can be a common theme.
Software engineering freshman Efe Celik decided to serve his peers with “Bring-N-Out.com,” where students can order popular items like Double-Doubles or Animal Fries for pickup on campus every Sunday at 6 p.m.
“My roommate Gavin and I were at VG, and we were like, ‘I want In-N-Out, but the nearest one is 25 minutes away,’” Celik said.’ “Then I thought, ‘What if I built an app for students to order throughout the week, and we bring In-N-Out back on Sundays?’ That’s how the idea came up.”
Celik and his roommates Zayne Hussain and Gavan Pena use their car to pick up orders. They’ve gotten tips from In-N-Out managers on keeping food warm.
Bring N Out recently added Costco cheese pizzas and hotdogs to the menu. Their main form of outreach has been their 600-follower Instagram page, which has helped them attract customers like freshman Devin Mars.
“I looked at the account and thought, ‘Is this legit?’ Then I tried it, and it was!,” Mars said.
Celik reached out to Cal Poly’s Associated Students Incorporated, who had no concerns about the project.
Freshman Ella Madland appreciates Bring N Out as a weekend alternative when 1901 has limited options.
“It’s super nice because everything is either closed early or not open,” Madland said.
Celik, who moved from Turkey to Orange County three years ago, has developed other softwares, including mobile games and community tools. Bring N Out has been his latest project.
Following in his family’s entrepreneurial footsteps, Celik continues to grow his skills and business ventures.
“I’ve worked with blockchain for my parents’ business, like building websites and tools. My family’s always been into business, and I was raised around that,” Celik said.
