On-campus ice cream drive-thru
The Cal Poly Creamery is home to an ice cream drive-thru. Students and community members can stop by from 12-4 p.m. on Fridays to purchase a pint of ice cream, a scoop and/or cheese.
Senior food sciences major Toni Rocha is a general productions assistant and student manager of sales for the creamery.
“We have our regular people that come through every week and we’re like ‘Oh, hey!,’ and there’s little kids and they always get their scoops of ice cream,” Rocha said.
Employees at the creamery help out with the drive-thru depending on their availability and scheduling.
Junior industrial technology and packaging major, Astrid Dalton, has been working at the Creamery for about four months. She loves getting to see the behind the scenes of how everything gets done.
“It’s really cool to get to see everything that does get to go on back there, because I had no idea how big of an operation it was,” Dalton said.
The ice cream and cheeses that are sold at the drive-thru are made at the creamery by Cal Poly students. The drive-thru is located at the creamery off of Mt. Bishop Road.
Customers can drive up or walk up, like freshman architecture major Kyra Costantino did with a friend after hearing about the creamery from working down the road at the Cal Poly Cat Shelter.
“I’m going to get my friends to come here in the next couple of weeks,” Costantino said.
The drive-thru is open to all in the San Luis Obispo community. Pints are $7 and there’s a range of flavors to choose from, including vanilla bean, cookies and cream, and mustang mint, as well as Cal Poly cheeses.
