Night Hikes Takes Us on a Voyage
The band Night Hikes recorded their last LP amongst the stained-glass windows and looming ceilings of an old Catholic church.
During their stay in lovely little SLO-town, the duo sang tunes off their recent album, Chalice, next door to our comfy red KCPR couch and a couple Apple computer monitors (not nearly as opulent, but hey I’d like to say there’s something chic about our printer paper and endless stack of Sure Sure posters).
The young folk who make up the dream pop group are Olivia Godby and Matthew Farrell, and the two have managed to make a small name for themselves amidst the ever-growing pool of sad-boy gloomy shoegaze-y bands that have swarmed the digital stage.
The two sing of dreamy lovescapes and foggy romance, and I couldn’t help but feel my heart ache as I watched them perform. It was as if I was floating in a twilight-lit pool, buoyed up by glimmering guitar riffs and feathery vocals. Godby sang, “and though forever is always in a rush/won’t let it get the best of us.” Time wasn’t passing, it was gliding—a bellowing airship of soft hope. The future was dark and obscure, but, for some reason, oblivion didn’t seem all that scary anymore.
If you feel like hopping on this airship and joining the rest of us in a realm outside of space-time, check out the show below.
