New Music Monday: September 28, 2020
Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. Crème Brûlée – King Hannah

Crème Brûlée was released on September 9th, 2020 and is Liverpool-based duo King Hannah’s first single. This song is very light on the lyrics and over half of its six minute and 28 second duration is purely instrumental. King Hannah is a duo to watch for in the coming months, as this song just shows a bit of the magic they can do.
2. If I Had My Way – Osees (aka Thee Oh Sees)
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Featured on Osees brand-new garage-punk psych-rock album, “Protean Threat,” “If I Had My Way” aims to get listeners moving and ready to live their best lives. Osees does not display the same reckless abandon here like the album’s other tracks, yet they establish a killer groove and slap energetic riffs throughout the song.
3. No Wind Resistance! – Kinnert
Recommended by: Jennifer Newton
This song has gone viral on Tik Tok recently and is on Kinnert’s debut album “DMV.” “ No Wind Resistance!” is an upbeat and catchy song where time will fly by as you listen to it on repeat. My roommate recommends listening to it when doing homework because just listening to the song makes your brain open up and think more.
4. Yucca Transit – Soulgood Kid

This song is super chill and unlike most of the music I’ve been listening to recently. It quickly caught my attention as I was listening idly to my recommended songs on Spotify. It was released September 23rd.
5. State of the Union (STFU) – Public Enemy
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
This track is from Public Enemy’s new album “What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down,” and is filled with rage primarily targeted toward the current president. The chorus raps, “State of the union, shut the f*ck up,” intertwined with tradeoff verses from Chuck D putting the government on blast. This is definitely an album to be bumping pre-election season.
6. Moments / Tides – Goth Babe
Recommended by: Gracie Walter
This single was released in early August by indie pop artist Griffin Washburn, the man behind Goth Babe. Washburn and his dog Sadie live in a van traveling along the west coast, making music and surfing. This song definitely gives off good vibes and might just inspire your next road trip or beach excursion.
7. Lost in Translation – The Neighbourhood

This song is on The Neighbourhood’s brand new album “Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones.” The song is the third released single off of the new album with a music video that was released September 24th. It is a fun song and upbeat with slower rhythms that give it a nice balance.
8. Be Free – Yellow Days

This song is from Yellows Day’s brand new album “A Day in a Yellow Beat.” The album was released September 18th and has been teased through multiple singles being put out throughout the year. The song gives a free-spirit feel and just makes you want to get out and be liberated.
9. Video Game – Sulfjan Stevens

I’m a die-hard indie music fan and have been listening to Sulfjan Stevens for a long time, but his new album “The Ascension” is a totally different alt vibe. The song starts off instrumental and somewhat melancholy, but becomes upbeat (yet with slow rhythms) which gives it good variety. It’s catchy but not annoying,. It’s definitely one that is worth a listen during those late nights spent studying.
10. Devil’s Advocate- The Neighbourhood

Devil’s Advocate is featured on the Neighbourhood’s new EP “Pretty Boy” and their new LP “Chip-Chrome and the Mono-tones.” This new LP is inspired by David Bowie’s persona “Ziggy Stardust.” Frontman Jesse Rutherford takes on the persona of “Chip Chrome,” a social media addict (Rutherford took a 9 month internet hiatus to perfect this character). The new album is cohesive and very introspective.
11. LAX – Vulfpeck
Recommended by: Spencer Egbert
This song is just one of several new releases this month by the funkiest band around, Vulfpeck. LAX has a familiar sound when comparing it to some of Vulfpeck’s classic hits and it has really gotten me excited for the rest of this project to be finished. Check this song out for another Vulfpeck instant classic that you can groove to at any time.
12. Forget Me Too – Machine Gun Kelly (feat. Halsey)
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
This song is one of the many fresh tracks released on Kelly’s newest album “Tickets to my Downfall” last Friday. It is different from the rap music he became famous for, but the song’s punk rock style is very inline with the music he has been releasing the past few months. This is one of his more mellow tracks, however Halsey’s feature is more intense and rock than one is used to.
