New music Monday: October 26, 2020
Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. Let Go – Sharon Van Etten

Sharon Van Etten’s new single, “Let Go,” was originally recorded for the recently released documentary “Feels Good Man.” The film aired on PBS on Monday, October 19 and tells the story of Matt Furie, the creator of the Pepe The Frog meme. “Let Go” truly highlights Van Etten’s raspy, sweet and ever soulful voice.
2. positions – Ariana Grande
Recommended by: Lauren Boyer
positions is the lead single off of Grande’s upcoming studio album and is an upbeat song about her flexibility to balance her career and romantic relationships.
3. Automation – King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
The eclectic rock collective King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard recently conjured a new track named “Automation.” If you are interested in remixing songs or are bored of just listening to the music you consume, the band has made the song’s raw audio files available for download on their website.
4. Pride (feat. mxmtoon) – Noah Kahan

Noah Kahan teams up with mxmtoon to drop this new single on October 23rd, 2020. mxmtoon’s calming vibe mixes perfectly with Kahan’s tenor voice to create a new pop hit.
5. WantMe2Stay – Bootsy Collins ft Larry Graham, Uche’Ndubizu, Branford Marsalis
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
This track is from Bootsy Collins’s new album “The Power of the One.” It is Boosty at his funkiest – singing over some really impressive basslines.
6. Making Bad Decisions – Bea Miller

You really hear Bea Miller’s vocal growth and maturity in this song and new album, “elated!” Her newfound raspy voice nice goes well with the song about impulsiveness and making last minute (bad) decisions. She has done a good job shaking off the shell of her former 13 year old self that we saw on “The X-Factor” with her newer mature sound.
7. Spooky Sounds (album) – Trippie Red

Need an album to get into the halloween spirit? Well Trippie Red just released a halloween album and it is exactly what the name entails. It’s a six song piece of just solely spooky sounds – from ghost sounds to a creaky door, the album practically has it all.
8. honey – boy pablo
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
“Wachito Rico,” a new album from boy pablo was released October 23. This song is a relaxing and upbeat listen. There is a really good guitar solo that elevates the song as well.
9. Homebody – Valley
Recommended by: Gracie Walter
Valley released their new EP “sucks to see you doing better” this week. It is a good listen and very upbeat, albeit talking about battling loneliness, depression and a lack of motivation.
10. The Pink Phantom – Gorillaz, Elton John, 6LACK
Recommended by: Spencer Egbert
This first song in the Gorillaz recently released album “Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez,” is exactly what you would expect on a project with both Elton John and 6LACK featuring. It is a slow paced alternative track that is typical of the Gorillaz, but is clearly influenced by Elton John’s classic 60s and 70s tone and 6LACK’s dreary hip hop style. The entire album is an experimental project by the Gorillaz with a large variety of artists featured.
11. Nothing Personal – Des Rocs
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
Des Rocs burst into the music industry as a rock artist, but in his latest track, “Nothing Personal,” he becomes more experimental with choppy pop sounds. His voice is traditionally very reminiscent of Elvis Presley, however in this song he sounds more distinct as himself, rather than the deceased icon. The track is catchy and is an exciting look at what is soon to be released by Rocs.
12. Let Me Love You Like A Woman – Lana Del Rey

This is Lana Del Rey’s newest single, released on October 19, 2020. The song is a bit different than some of her other work, its indie, lowkey vibes, so it’s definitely worth a listen.
