New Music Monday: October 19, 2020
Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. October Snow- Morgan Reese
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
This song was released on October 4th and gained a lot of attention from a viral tiktok video of the artist promoting her music. It is a very catchy and chill yet cheerful song.
2. to Perth, before the border closes – Julia Jacklin
Recommended by: Kallie Kidder
Julia Jacklin released two songs on October 12th for Sub Pop’s long-running Single’s Cub. “to Perth, before the border closes” as well as “CRY” – her newest singles – are Jacklin’s freshest tracks since her February 2019 album “Crushing,” one I would highly recommend. Her voice is authentic and comforting, with a really sweet touch. It is perfect for a 90 degree San Luis Obispo Fall!
3. Dos Uno Nueve – Omar Apollo
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
Apollo’s vocals blend beautifully with Spanish guitar instrumentals. The soothing performance is a good track to listen to in the morning when you’re about to start your day.
4. You Know Better – Post Animal
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Building off their sophomore album released this year, “Forward Motion Godyssey,” Chicago outfit Post Animal have continued to formulate a more unique and mature sound in “You Know Better.” The song sounds like something that would fit perfectly in a neo-noir night-time soundscape.
5. Luna – Smashing Pumpkins
Recommended by: Lauren Boyer
This is the closing song on their album “Siamese Dream.” It appears to be a love song but Billy Corgan says its for the moon.
6. Mirrors – Rejje Snow, Snoh Allegra, Cam O’bi
Recommended by: Jonathon Crespin
This song overall is a plain and simple vibe. The silky voice of Allegra, along with rhythmic rhymes of O’bi and Snow fuses into a blend of genres that leaves the listeners dazed.
7. Pink Phantom – Gorillaz ft. Elton John and 6lack
Recommended by: Jennifer Newton
In an unexpected collab, Gorillaz brings together the genre of alternative, rap and rock in a harmonious way. Elton John continues to prove that if you give him a piano and a microphone he can do any genre.
8. Heat Waves – Glass Animals
Recommended by: Alice Sukhostavskiy
This is one of the most popular songs on Glass Animals’ new album, “Dreamland,” and definitely recommended for fans of all music genres. This song mixes a ton of genres for a chill and relaxed vibe.
9. Only Time Makes It Human – King Princess
Recommended by: Gracie Walter
Released October 15th, King Princess is back again with an upbeat single titled “Only Time Makes It Human.” Following her release of “Cheap Queen” last year, this song describes the unrequited love she has for her ex – a must listen.
10. lie to me – Tate McRae

Tate McRae has a very unique voice that intrigues listeners, leaving them wanting more. This song totally gets me in my feels with its bone-chilling bass hits and heart-wrenching lyrics.
11. Mi Casa – Kota the Friend
Recommended by: Alexa Kushner
Kota the Friend is an independent artist from New York who is known for blending gentle, playful beats with genuine, thoughtful verses. This song in particular reeks of summer, friendships, and all around good vibes, which we could all use at the moment.
12. None of My Business – Dasha
Recommended by: Spencer Egbert
Dasha is a local artist who has been singing and song-writing her entire life, but recently she has taken it to the next level. After being signed by Quadio Records earlier this year, Dasha has been working hard to release mainstream pop music. Her newest single, “None of My Business,” is a catchy tune released in early October. Recently, Dasha has produced a music video to complement her new song, and it is simply too good not to check out!
13. Am I Talking to the Champagne (Or Talking to You) – The Struts
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
The glitter rock band released their third album this past Friday, “Strange Days,” with this song being their closing track. It is a fun blend of eerie jazz with hints of the eccentric rock sound these boys are known for. Also Luke Spiller’s easy, smooth vocals are like butter for the ears.
