New Music Monday: October 12, 2020
Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. Frequency – Sylvan Esso

This whimsical song from Sylvan Esso’s recently released album “Free Love,” feels very dream-like given the electronic sounds and sweet vocals by Amelia Meath. The duo formed in 2012 and never fails to seamlessly tie together deep, intimate emotions with light and poppy sounds.
2. So she goes – Geskle
Recommended by: Lauren Boyer
This dreamy song is one you’ll never grow tired of and is featured on Geskle’s EP “Rose Colored Glasses.” The bass line is subtle but totally killer. “Geskle” was Jesse Damon’s nickname in high school.
3. Last Words To A Refugee – Cut Worms
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Fresh off of Cut Worms’ brand new album, “Nobody Lives Here Anymore,” “Last Words To A Refugee” is an authentic illustration of the laidback nostalgic cowboy-pop that Max Clarke has established for his project. This song is perfect for a relaxing day outside as autumn begins to creep in.
4. wisdom teeth – Bea Miller
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
Miller released this single on October 9th. It is a fun upbeat song to listen to, has a very catchy chorus and is a good listen when with friends or just dancing around.
5. Heart of Glass – Miley Cyrus
Recommended by: Gracie Walter
This song, released September 29th, was live from the iHeart Music Festival. Heart of Glass, performed by Cyrus, is originally a Blondie song. Cyrus definitely matches the energy and passion of the original artist, but gives it more of a rock layer.
6. My Way, Soon – Greta Van Fleet
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
The young American rock band is at it again with their latest single “My Way, Soon.” Josh Kizka’s distinct and notorious vocals are backed by a classic rock sound with elements of folk as the song embarks listeners on a journey about living life to the fullest. This track is catchier than some of the hits Greta Van Fleet became famous for.
7. Loverwave – The 1-800
Recommended by: Jennifer Newton
The 1-800 is fairly new band from El Paso, Texas. The debuted in 2019 with their song “Loverwave.” Their music gives off 80s vibes at a roller rink but still has that upbeat energy of the 21st century. They also released a new single called “Love Anarchy,” but I would first start off with “Loverwave” and experience the journey they go through with their sound from 2019 to now.
8. Main Attraction – Junglepussy
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
Junglepussy once again delivers another track with polished vocals alongside an uplifting theme for women. This track boasts of Junglepussy’s bravado and should be played before going out (in a post pandemic world) with the girls.
9. Baby I’m Jealous – Bebe Rexha ft. Doja Cat
Recommended by: Jenna McCarthy
“Baby I’m Jealous” was released on Friday, October 9th and is quickly gaining traction via Rexha and Doja Cat’s fanbases. This pop single is the first to drop from Bebe Rexha’s upcoming sophomore album.
10. Hot Sugar – Glass Animals
Recommended by: Alice Sukhostavskiy
Hot Sugar was recently released by English psychedelic band Glass Animals in their new album “Dreamland.” This song is one of the best off the album, has upbeat, but low-key vibes and has a catchy chorus, but an original tune.
11. Can You Feel It – Tom Misch
Recommended by: Jonathon Crespin
Tom Misch has given us another little tidbit of his work with drummer Yussef Dayes, in the form of an extension of their last album together. This song is a perfect mix between instrumental jazz and lofi electronic music. It is perfect for any occasion — whether you are listening while doing homework, or trying to set the mood for a date, Misch has got your back.
