Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. Midnight Sky (Edge of Midnight) – Miley Cyrus (ft. Stevie Nicks)
Recommended by: Alexa Kushner
Miley Cyrus is making rock and roll mainstream once again with the rock legend herself, Stevie Nicks. Nicks joins in on “Midnight Sky” which sampled her classic song, “Edge of Seventeen.” Their voices blend seamlessly on this remix and their chemistry is electric. It’s a little classic rock for Miley’s new rock album, “Plastic Hearts,” coming out on November 27th.
2. Decimal – Novo Amor
Recommended by: Kallie Kidder
Novo Amor released a brilliant brand new album, “Cannot Be, Whatsoever” on Friday November 6th. The ten song album delivers just a half-hour of listening, yet every track is a cozy, comforting surprise. Each lyric and instrumental sound are soothing and delicate – a perfect fall soundtrack. I would highly recommend this song and album for fans of Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Sufjan Stevens.
3. FOOL’S GOLD – Aries
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Aries’ first release in over a year, “FOOL’S GOLD,” serves as the lead single from the California native’s upcoming sophomore album. Aries lights it up in the entertaining music video created by Mattias Russo-Larsson. Jam out to this finely-crafted, booming track to get a much-needed kick through the election season.
4. What It Is (feat. Chris Brown) – KYLE
Recommended by: Jenna McCarthy
The song “What It Is” by KYLE was originally released in July, but KYLE just dropped this version featuring Chris Brown on October 30th, 2020. By adding Chris Brown to this track via harmonies and his own sections of the song, it adds a whole new feel.
5. hallelujah – Bea Miller
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
The music video for this song was released earlier this week and while watching I loved what I was hearing! It is a strong and powerful song that is the type you sing at the top of your lungs.
6. Thank you for the moment – Kyle Lux
Recommended by: Jennifer Newton
Kyle Lux released his “Projectors” EP on October 28th of this year and it is everything you need right now. He has the voice like Daniel Cesar with lyrics like Frank Ocean. In my opinion, he is one of the best rising artists right now. He has the ability to produce upbeat tracks like “222” but also, he can make calmer and melancholic tunes like “Thank you for the moment.” No matter what emotion you’re feeling, Kyle Lux has a song to match your feelings.
7. Happen to Me – BENEE
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
This track is a single off of BENEE’s upcoming album “HEY U X” and is a more introspective song full of self reflection backed by coming of age guitar instrumentals.
8. pov – Ariana Grande
Recommended by: lauren boyer
This closer to Grande’s new album “positions” is a sweet song about how she wishes to see herself from the point of view of her lover and partner.
9. Tangerine- Glass Animals
Recommended by: Alice Sukhostavskiy
Up-and-coming band Glass Animals, formed in 2010, released “Tangerine” as a part of their new album “Dreamland.” It is definitely worth a listen with its chill and upbeat vibes.
10. I Wonder Why – Joesef Feat. Loyle Carner
Recommended by: Jonathon Crespin
Up-and-coming UK artist Joesef released this single back in October and has since released the album “Does It Make You Feel Good.” Both UK artists give their own flair to the song creating a mellow, but still very “vibe-y” feel.
11. Shame Shame – Foo Fighters
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
The Foo Fighters haven’t released music since their 2017 album “Concrete and Gold,” until now with this single “Shame Shame.” The song is mellower than the hard, “dad-rock” the band became famous for. While I don’t see the single becoming an iconic Foo Fighters piece, it will definitely satisfy fans until they release their next full length album.
