Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. FALL – SG LEWIS
Recommended by: Eden Baker
This track blends electronic undertones, bass, piano, and SG Lewis’ smooth vocals in an almost therapeutic manner. I, personally, feel myself getting lost while listening to this song because of how hypnotizing the instrumentals are and how well Lewis articulates wanting a former partner back in his life.
2. 3am – HAIM (ft. Thundercat)
Recommended by: Alexa Kushner
This song has smooth vocals, from both the girls in HAIM and Thundercat, mixed in with some funk to make for a chill coffeehouse vibe. It also has a nostalgic early 2000’s feel and sounds different from the rest of their new album, “Women In Music Pt. III,” which gives it an edge.
3. Josh – Peach PRC
Recommended by: Emily Brower
There’s always that one person in your life that can’t seem to move on or leave you alone. The lyrics, “I think maybe you’re lost, I’m exhausted always cutting you off,” perfectly capture the feeling of being over always trying to move on from someone who can’t seem to let go.
4. Heatwave – Julian Baker
Recommended by: Kallie Kidder
Julian Baker has released her latest album, “Little Oblivions,” and, after just one listen, I’m convinced this is my favorite of her works! The 12-song album has been long awaited, especially since Baker’s 2018 project with Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, “Boygenius.”
5. Blue – Madison Beer
Recommended by: Jenna McCarthy
This song has an eerie and ominous vibe, unlike most of her other music. It dropped February 26th on Beer’s newest album, “Life Support.”
6. Oh, Louise – Marina Allen
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Marina Allen delivers a pure and illuminating introduction to her music with “Oh, Louise.” The LA-based musician’s vibe is reminiscent of her favorite renowned artists Karen Carpenter, Carole King and Joni Mitchell. Allen will brighten your day with this track so give it a listen and be on the lookout for her first album, “Candlepower,” on June 4.
7. Thinking of You – Sam Drew
Recommended by: Alina Jafri
If you’re looking for a new, underground artist to explore, Sam Drew’s album just dropped. His song “Thinking of You” is my favorite because of the calm, therapeutic feel and is a perfect song to relax to.
8. I Can’t Throw No Stones – Quadry (ft. Grip & Tommy Rogue)
Recommended by: Moises De La Cruz
This track is another breezy walk in the park from the Louisiana rapper Quadry, who is joined by a capable crew over a funky soul beat that swings like tree branches in the wind. “I Can’t Throw No Stones” weaves personal narratives and lovestruck introspection into a relaxing mix that feels perfect for the upcoming springtime.
9. Beautiful Mind – carpetgarden
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
This song is equally parts calm and upbeat and is setting a sunny, pop vibe as spring is approaching. It’s chill nature makes it fitting for any mood and will fit nicely on almost all playlists.
