1. No Son of Mine – Foo Fighters
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
This is the newest single from the band’s upcoming album. It is a strong song with intense drums and guitar that exemplify Foo Fighters’ strengths. The lyrics are very catchy and add to the enjoyment of this recent release.
2. The Pale Moonlight – Kid Cudi
Recommended by: Alina Jafri
This is one of the songs released in Kid Cudi’s new album “Man On The Moon III.” The instrumentals and background vocals are mesmerizing and portray Cudi’s unique music style.
3. Champagne Problems – Taylor Swift
Recommended by: Alice Sukhostavskiy
This is one of the songs released in Taylor Swift’s new album, “evermore,” which is “folklore”’s sister album. Even for those who are not fans of Swift, “Champagne Problems” has a unique vibe. It’s very soft, instrumental and portrays another side of Taylor Swift.
4. Better Than Feeling Lonely – Olivia O’Brien
Recommended by: Jenna McCarthy
Olivia O’Brien’s voice in general has always hypnotized me, so, when I first heard this new single, I was immediately in love. Its beat reminds me of a bubblegum-type world – similar to albums by Melanie Martinez.
5. Stargazing-The Neighbourhood
Recommended by: Eden Baker
As a stand alone single off of The Neighbourhood’s “Chip Chrome and the Monotones” deluxe album, the band intended for this song to be noticed. With its upbeat, yet slow tone, “Stargazing” makes it clear that the band wanted this song to balance out a wide spectrum of emotions.
6. Willow – Taylor Swift
Recommended by: lauren boyer
This is the first song off of Taylor Swift’s newest album “evermore” and is a great opening track. It showcases her maturity as an artist.
7. The Chocolate Conquistadors – MF DOOM and BADBADNOTGOOD
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Legendary super villain hip-hop artist MF DOOM and Canadian instrumental group BADBADNOTGOOD collaborate on this delicious jam released for “Grand Theft Auto: Online.” This track is an unexpected posthumous release from DOOM. His family revealed on New Year’s Eve that he passed away on October 31, 2020.
8. Better Off Dead – Jxdn
Recommended by: Emily Brower
From his EP “Better Off Dead,” this song is just the beginning of Jxdn incorporating early 2000s pop-punk inspired sounds with a modern calmness. You can’t help but scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs, as the track encapsulates the feeling of teenage heartbreak.
9. ALLTHETIME – POLICE CAR COLLECTIVE
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
After scrolling through Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist, this track stood out to me for its mellow melodies and the full, choir-like chorus. I have been trying to find more chill and relaxed music lately, so this song fits the bill.
