Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. NOT AROUND – RITT MOMNEY
Recommended by: Eden Baker
This new single balances the elements of relaxation and sadness; this being
said, this song is good for anyone who is looking for a diminished tune
for when they lack energy. I would also recommend following Ritt Momney in
general – after the recognition “Put Your Records On” generated on TikTok, I believe
that this artist may be a new up-and-comer.
2. Company Car – Lizzie Reid
Recommended by: Kallie Kidder
Lizzie Reid’s new seven-song album showcases her timeless voice and I absolutely can not wait to hear more from her in the future. I would absolutely recommend giving this short and sweet album, “Cubicle,” a listen!
3. Under an Ocean of Holes – Minor Moon
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Chicago-based outfit Minor Moon’s new single “Under an Ocean of Holes” is a spiritual, twangy sonic jam with an existential vibe. The song’s magnetic groove will hook you, but Minor Moon’s imaginative vision will keep you listening.
4. CANCELLED – slowthai featuring Skepta
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
I wanted to not pick another slowthai song since I did one a few weeks ago, but slowthai’s new album “TYRON,” dropped and I haven’t stopped listening. This track features slowthai and Skepta trading verses over a grimy synth instrumental that screams quintessential slowthai. The UK rapper’s second album is one that demands and holds your attention.
5. Murder Party – NOT THE MAIN CHARACTERS
Recommended by: Emily Brower
6. Kara Toprak – Altin Gün
Recommended by: M. Alex De La Cruz
This track would be the perfect musical compliment to a weekend cruise up the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s a Turkish-folk-meets-psych-funk groove that’s sure to inspire footwork and a perpetual good mood as the springtime approaches.
7. Heat Above – Greta Van Fleet
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
The lengthy instrumental build up to the flesh of the song is worth it as this power rock ballad encapsulates what fans have come to love from the band. The chorus feels triumphant and Josh Kiszka’s unique voice makes this yet another special single.
