November is here, and so is a mix of both up-and-coming artists and those returning to the scene to soundtrack your fall.
Snail Mail – Valentine
Three years after her last release, Lindsey Jordan of Snail Mail is back on the scene in full force. Her new album, “Valentine,” is out Nov. 5 via Matador Records. The musician has released two singles from the album prior to its release — the title track “Valentine” and a synth-led single called “Ben Franklin.” Both of these singles stir excitement for the next genre-defying collection of songs from Snail Mail.
Hana Vu – Public Storage
21-year-old singer-songwriter Hana Vu will release her third studio album, “Public Storage,” on Nov. 5. With powerful lyrics matched with mysterious and haunting tones, Vu writes about loneliness, deep introspection, and a longing for something more. Vu released three singles ahead of the 12-track album release, including the addictive “Everybody’s Birthday.” After branching out from bedroom-pop and experimenting with different styles of music, Vu is seeming to settle down within the alternative indie-rock genre for this upcoming release.
The Black Keys – El Camino: 10th Anniversary
The Black Keys are back 20 years after their 2001 formation to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their monumental album, “El Camino.” The rock band will release a special remastered edition of the album on Nov 5. The Black Keys won three Grammy awards in 2011 following the original release of “El Camino,” which includes Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album. The extension of the original 11-track album will consist of 51 tracks, including recorded live performances and Zane Lowe’s BBC Session.
Courtney Barnett – Things Take Time, Take Time
On Nov. 12, Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett will release her third studio album, “Things Take Time, Take Time.” Almost two years after her last release, “Tell Me How You Really Feel,” Barnett has released three singles in anticipation of the album’s release. “Rae Street” and “Write a List of Things To Look Forward To” are two tracks from the upcoming album that encapsulate the balladic, catchy and lyrically-driven songs that Barnett executes. Barnett’s upcoming album will be perfect for the rest of the fall.
IDLES – Crawler
Genre-blending rock band IDLES will release their fifth studio album titled “Crawler” on Nov. 12. IDLES put out one single ahead of the album’s release date, the heavy soul-rock anthem “The Beachland Ballroom.” About a year after their last release, IDLES is reimagining rock music with Crawler, which rejects the post-punk label that is often prescribed to them.
Beach Fossils – The Other Side of Life
Beach Fossils will return to the surf rock scene on November 19 with their first release in four years, “The Other Side of Life.” However, this album is a little different: instead of new, unreleased music, Beach Fossils is switching it up with piano ballad versions of the band’s past songs. Usually known for their upbeat and magical melodies, Beach Fossils is reimagining their signature style of music in this experimental release.
Deap Vally – Marriage
Rock duo Deap Vally will release their third album, “Marriage,” on November 19. This album follows the band’s two recent EPs, “American Cockroach” and “Digital Dream,” both of which were released earlier this year. The duo, made up of Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards, has created music for 10 years and is back for another heavy-riffing but artistically powerful rock album.
