“Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol 1” – Joni Mitchell

This is the first drop in an archival project series from the legendary folk singer and songwriter. It features covers of classic folk songs from Mitchell’s early career, and the listener can hear young Mitchell before the successes of “Blue.” Her voice is ever so distinct and raw on these deeper cuts of her discography.

“Deja Vu Alternatives” – Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

This album pushed boundaries in folk and rock. The addition of Neil Young to Crosby, Stills and Nash added another layer of vocals to the prolific album. There is a vulnerability, yet an intensity throughout each track in this album that cemented CSN as legends.

“Strays With Rabies” – EARTHGANG

The Atlanta hip hop duo never fails to bring wit, confidence and commentary to every record they touch. This is one of their earlier projects from 2015, making it an interesting listen after seeing them grow in both ability and success. 

“Bad Girls” – Donna Summer

No one has earned their nickname more than Donna Summer. The “Queen of Disco” oozes passion, bravado and joy as one of the fiercest vocals to emerge from the disco scene. “Hot Stuff” will always be my go-to song of empowerment and confidence.

“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)”- Various Artists

Produced by Jon Brion, who has composed music for the likes of Frank Ocean, Fiona Apple and Mac Miller, this soundtrack perfectly encapsulates the melancholic relationship between Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet’s characters in the film. It’s filled with imaginative string arrangements, making the score a big reason for what makes the movie so whimsical-yet-gloomy.
