KCPR presents: Sun Room with support from Swede and Skogen at SLO Brew Rock
A packed venue, a line out the door and eager fans were the product of San Diego-based rock band Sun Room’s show on Friday, March 31st at SLO Brew Rock.
San Luis Obispo-based band Swede and Skogan served as the opening act. The band aims to explore life’s underlying motifs, providing an escape from reality through a continuously evolving sound. Toward the end of their set, guitar player and vocalist Erik Methot put down his guitar and moved to a synth to pay tribute to the iconic French electronic band Daft Punk with a cover of their song “Robot Rock.” The guitar was then picked up by band member Cody Lambert for the band’s last few songs. The combination of the versatile instruments and energy on stage enlivened the audience.
Impatient screams filled the elbow-to-elbow crowd as they waited for Sun Room to step on stage. The young southern California band started their show with the song “Summer’s Here” from their 2020 album “Sol de Sur” before moving into their newest single, “Clementine.”
Bassist Max Pinamonti took lead vocals during a cover of The Marvelette’s 1961 song, “Please Mr. Postman,” and guitarist Ashton Minnich played a long and electrifying guitar solo. The set was also sprinkled with fills from Sun Room drummer, Gibby Anderson. The entire band took center stage to sing their performance of “Crashed My Bike.” together.
The lights turned red in the smoke-filled venue as Sun Room prepared to close the night. The last song they played was “Red Dress” from their 2021 album, “Somewhere Tropical.” The performance of the band’s beachy tunes was supplemented by their chemistry on stage. The members of Sun Room had fun alongside crowd, creating energetic mosh pits and a lively night of dancing.
The show ended with guitarist Luke Asgian throwing a guitar pick and Anderson tossing a drum stick to two lucky concert-goers. The band interacted with fans at the merchandise booth afterward alongside Swede and Skogan. After one more United States show in Texas, Sun Room will begin to tour Europe as an opener for the Dublin-based band Inhaler.
