Katy Zanville
Graduation year and major:
2008 and nutrition, with an emphasis in culinary science
Position at KCPR:
Air Staff Instructor 2007-2008. DJ of a french show called “Le Rendezvous”
Favorite part about working for KCPR:
I loved so much about my time at KCPR. My closest friends from college, that I am still in touch with (even though we are all around the world now), are all friends that I met at KCPR. I appreciated being fed new music each week during our weekly meetings. I loved the socializing, the bonds we created and the acceptance of all the DJs, so everyone could truly be themselves. I grew so much as an individual during my time at the radio station. I also started my first podcast at KCPR, “Le Rendezvous!”
Where do you currently work and what do you do?
I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at a group private practice called Nashville Nutrition Partners. We focus on individualized health-promoting behaviors from a weight-neutral approach. In addition to seeing clients with conditions such as eating disorders, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, I also lead their marketing initiatives.
How did, if at all, KCPR help or prepare you for your career trajectory?
KCPR helped me practice my communication skills and improve my confidence. I had no idea what I was doing when I was a trainee back in 2004. But that one am graveyard shift really helped me build confidence in exploring the music stacks and talking on the air when I thought no one was really listening.
In my current job, I speak with clients all day and correspond with media outlets. The foundation I received at KCPR while hosting my own radio show helped me to provide clear and succinct answers to the media and my clients. I also hosted a food podcast with my best friend called “Butter + Jam” and would not have known how to speak on the air without my time at KCPR.
