Georgia – Seeking Thrills
2020 is starting off just dandy, with releases from artists like U.S. Girls, Tame Impala, and Thundercat.
Adding to the mix of great music comes Georgia, a UK electro-pop singer, songwriter, and her fantastic second studio album, Seeking Thrills.
The album is a ton of fun and features a range of electronic moods and rhythms with a track for every occasion. If you like artists like Chromatics, Little Dragon, Tom Misch, or even Jorja Smith, I bet you’ll love what you hear in Seeking Thrills.
Tracks like “Started Out,” “About Work The Dancefloor,” and “The Thrill” are super catchy, featuring hypnotic flows with entrancing lyrical ballads that make you want to get up and hit the dancefloor. These tracks are the most “typical” structured electronic dance-esque songs in the album which makes them three of the most approachable tracks on the album to have put on anytime and enjoy. Songs later in the album like “Feel It” and “Ray Guns” also have up-beat electronic flows but follow a much less predictable pattern and have a much more distinct, “experimental” sound. The choruses on both are absolutely fantastic and really makes the songs complete. These two really shine on what makes Georgia unique as an electro-pop musician in the field.
There are also less upbeat tracks on Seeking Thrills like “Mellow” featuring Shygirl, “I Can’t Wait,” and “Feel It.” However, these tracks are some of my personal favorites of the album because of their distinct sounds compared to the rest of the album. The songs are much more slow paced but often feel to have more powerful sentiments and varied styles and instrumentation. Songs like these are super nice on this album because they prevent the whole album from feeling like one long song and give a sense of depth to her artistic vision.
My personal favorite on Seeking Thrills is the song “Never Let You Go – Alternative Version.” Georgia released the original song back in 2019 in a small preview EP for the upcoming album, but when it comes back up on the finalized project, it is in a much more rock form. Transitioning from electronics to drum beats, the song is so much more up-beat, fun, and nostalgic. Despite not being a traditional electronic-dance song, this song provides so much energy, groove, passion that it outshines other tracks intended to be dance-oriented.
Overall, this album is great and my favorite release to come out so far in 2020. The variety of style, rhythm, and mood throughout the album makes it into a memorable, moving, and cohesive piece, great for both exciting single song plays and whole record run-throughs. I would give this album a strong 8.5/10! You can check out the full album down below and some lovely music videos via Georgia’s YouTube channel.
