Friends? Enemies? No. Frenemies: A new H3 podcast on YouTube
While scrolling through Tik Tok you may have been coming across a lot of Trisha Paytas content or “trishlikefish88.” With her iconic captions and lip-syncs, she has risen to be one of Tik Tok’s regular stars in this past year and this is no surprise.
Paytas has been a YouTube sensation since 2006 with her first YouTube channel, “blndsundoll4mj,” and has been collaborating regularly with other YouTubers since her start.
Her newest collaboration is the “Frenemies” podcast with Ethan Klein from the Youtube channel “H3H3” and honestly, the name says it all. Both Klein and Paytas have experience in podcasting, but this podcast feels more like a social experiment.
Since Klein and Paytas have big personalities the podcast is very suspenseful for viewers. You truly never know what is going to happen next. Will Trisha storm out? Who knows.
However, what we do know, is that the fans are loving it.
Third-year business major, Antonio Murillo, has been watching both “H3H3” and Trisha Paytas for years now and thinks that this collaboration is mutually beneficial for both the creators and viewers.
“I think that “Frenemies” offers a new sort of collab that [we] would’ve never seen before on YouTube and it brought both of their audiences together. It’s also two extroverts so it’s really funny to see their chemistry play out in the podcast,” said Murillo.
The biggest draw for audiences is to see how Klein and Paytas interact with each other. Whether it is good or bad, they have a great rapport and banter.
The comments on YouTube consistently pick on that. One commenter described it perfectly as “they’re like the friends in kindergarten that hated each other but still sat together at lunch.”
Another said that “their chemistry is nauseatingly perfect.”
What makes this podcast even more enjoyable is their dedication. From the painted half pink, half black set to their coordinated costumes throughout October, these two are giving it their all to keep us entertained and it is working.
Klein’s dedication throughout the podcasts is evident, but the dedication is more geared towards his channel as a whole. He wants to ensure that he produces entertaining, quality content for his channel and audience. He even talks about his ideas for the podcast and where it can go in the future.
Klein has been on Youtube for a very long time and it seems like he is trying to rebrand with Paytas to spice up his channel. His own channel consists of podcasts with his wife, Hila, and some guests, as well as old-school reaction videos.
Paytas’s channel on the other hand, is mukbangs (videos of her eating copious amounts of food), tutorials, and relationship advice. She also does a lot of random vlogs and videos that seem to be her most popular across social media. Needless to say, she knows how to entertain on YouTube.
The only contact the two stars had prior to the podcast is them mocking one another as content creators on social media, and because of that they are just now starting to warm up to each other.
It is also important to mention that Paytas is currently dating Klein’s brother in law. This made for some animosity from Klein not initially approving the relationship due to Paytas’s past. In some of the episodes, you can cut the tension with a knife between those two. They’re almost like siblings in the way they fight hard, but makeup two seconds later. Meanwhile, the audience just gets to watch it all unfold.
The podcast is really good for that reason. They are extremely raw and authentic in their opinions and don’t hold back in fear of being “cancelled.” They have boundaries with each other now and it has been cool to watch these two people go from merely acquaintances to friends in just eight episodes. This podcast definitely has the potential to be even more popular than it already is.
“Frenemies” airs on the H3 podcast channel via YouTube every Tuesday.
