Freddie Gibbs to bring hip-hop and “$oul $old $eparately” to the Fremont Theater

From growing up in Gary, Indiana to receiving Grammy nominations and touring around the world, Freddie Gibbs has lived nine lives to achieve the booming rap career he has today — and he tells it all in “$oul $old $eparately.” 

Gibbs has set out several tour dates along the west coast in honor of this latest album and will perform at the Fremont Theatre on Saturday, April 1. 

Freddie Gibbs has been in the hip-hop scene since 2004 under the title of an “underground rapper,” because he avoided mainstream routes to success in the industry. He was an independent artist for nine years under his own label Evil Seeds Grow Naturally (ESGN), until the release of “$oul $old $eparately.”

Despite reaching high acclaim and releasing an album under his first major label, Warner Records, his new tracks stay true to his hard-spitting, authentic, gangsta rap style that he has demonstrated since his humble beginnings of self-released mixtapes. 

However, Gibbs aimed to challenge himself with the release of his new album. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gibbs said “​​I’d love to keep my work on the same level where I left off or get better. And I feel like I challenged myself on this album and got better as a rapper.”

Gibbs worked with artists like Offset, Schoolboy Q and Anderson .Paak and producers such as KAYTRANADA to create his latest album, and these collaborations gave him the range to experiment with his fluid rap game.
