Color me: Add a splash of color to your music taste
Everyone needs a little color in their life and music seems like just the place to source it.
I’ve matched a variety of songs to twelve colors and the vibes I associate them with: which is your favorite?
COLOR ME ORANGE
Orange quickly became one of my favorite categories especially given the current fall season. Orange is warm, cozy, comforting and makes you inherently happy by experiencing the sound.
COLOR ME PINK
Pink is the giddiness of having a crush and slowly falling in love. It’s the playlist of a dreamer wistfully thinking about dancing in the rain with the love of their life.
COLOR ME WHITE
White is another of my personal favorites, since it’s also chill, similar to orange. White, however, feels cooler, like you’re drinking hot chocolate and watching the snow fall outside your window (yes, I know, San Luis Obispo doesn’t have snow, but a girl can dream, right?).
COLOR ME GREEN
Green is a blast from the past. It’s the epitome of the grunge you wanted to be back in elementary and/or middle school, thus taking you back to the good old days.
COLOR ME GREY
Grey is eerie – creepy, even. It’s the soundtrack of a medieval horror story where the heiress to the throne who was murdered by her brother comes back for revenge.
COLOR ME YELLOW
Completely contrasting grey, yellow is sunshine and rainbows. Yellow is what to listen to after you’ve had a bad day and nothing else can cheer you up, but this playlist is what finally does the trick.
COLOR ME PURPLE
Purple is watching reality float away. It is an out-of-body experience where you feel like you’re on a completely different planet than the world surrounding you.
COLOR ME BLUE
Blue is pure, unfiltered sadness. Back in high school, my friends and I used to go to parking lots in the middle of the night and listen to sad music just so we could cry and unpack. This soundtrack is an example of what music we played during those nights consisted of.
COLOR ME LILAC
Lilac is a quick little pump up. These are good tunes to blast on long drives with the windows rolled all the way down, screaming the lyrics on the highway and it’s a great mood-booster if you need a pick-me-up.
COLOR ME RED
Red is strong and powerful. I listen to red when I want to do something bold. Red is the hype you feel at a live concert or the rush of going out with your friends on a Saturday night.
COLOR ME BABY BLUE
Baby blue is similar to pink in the sense that it’s about love and happiness, though this one is softer and more delicate. As my roommate says, these are the songs you’d play for your first dance at your wedding.
COLOR ME BEIGE
Beige is plain. I don’t mean for plain to have negative connotations, but for it to mean that this is what you listen to when you want to feel nothing. It is mindless, but soothing.
Check out the playlists attached to each category, and comment what you think! What songs would you add to each color?
