The psychedelic rock group Babe Rainbow filled SLO Brew Live with trippy reverbs, funky basslines and vintage vibes at their sold-out show on Saturday, October 1.
The performance began with a 25-minute set from the up-and-coming band seventies tuberide. Babe Rainbow came on stage around 9 p.m., playing a 50-minute set featuring fan-favorite songs, such as “Peace Blossom Boogie,” and newer pieces.
Two songs into their set, guitarist Jack Crowther told the crowd he was “really happy to be here,” and the crowd replied with a chorus of cheering and a sea of shaka signs.
Lead singer Angus Dowling captivated the audience with his eccentric dancing and elicited many cheers and encouragement when he started playing the tambourine. Dowling kept his commentary to a minimum, besides thanking the crowd for their generosity and mentioning how the band had never “played around these parts.”
The band finished their set with the first song they ever wrote, “Love Forever.” As they left the stage signing album sleeves for fans, the crowd began to chant for one more song.
Greeted with audible enthusiasm from the audience, Babe Rainbow returned to the stage, beers in hand, with drummer Miles Myjavec jumping and spinning in the air.
On their way out, the band signed more albums and gave the front row high fives.
