Japanese Breakfast throws a “Jubilee” at the Madonna Expo Center in celebration of their new album

Indie rock band Japanese Breakfast took the stage at the Madonna Expo Center last Friday night to showcase their newest album, “Jubilee.”

Sasami Ashworth — who performs with her band under the name SASAMI —  appeared in front of the crowd wearing dark cloaks before pulling out their instruments and jamming to their singles off of the release “The Greatest / Skin A Rat.”

While SasamiI ran around the stage, guitar in hand, her long-haired bandmates whipped their heads around to their punk and metal-inspired jams.

After performing several songs, SASAMI welcomed Japanese Breakfast to the stage. Yes, it is true, Michelle Zauner’s voice is just as magical as it is on the new album.

The band opened with the first few songs on the new album like “Be Sweet,” “Paprika” and “Kokomo, IN.” Guitarist Peter Bradley pulled at the audience’s heartstrings with his impressive yet humble musicality, and Zauner’s skillful musicianship lit up the room.

After performing their last song “Everybody Wants to Love You” and walking off stage, the band responded to the crowd’s wish for “one more song.” With that, Zauner came back to play a song from her new soundtrack for the video game Sable on the piano and was later joined by her bandmates to play some crowd favorites, including “Diving Woman.”
