I was the host of a talk show: “Talk of the Town” for four quarters.

Favorite part about working for KCPR:

I was already involved with the student newspaper, but radio gave me so much more opportunity. I felt really free to experiment and explore the medium. I made some great life-long friends. 

KCPR put me in touch with people with a deep interest in arts, music, journalism and other creative activities that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to meet through my own major. The general staff meetings were always wild and exciting. And… I got to meet Weird Al Yankovic on his first return visit to Cal Poly in the late ’90s. (See picture)

Where do you work now and what do you do?

I’m a professor at Cal Poly. I teach in Computer Science and Computer Engineering departments.

How did, if at all, KCPR help or prepare you for your career trajectory?

It helped me in many ways. I learned how to design an engaging program and bring out the best message in guests. I learned the art of the interview and broadcast journalism. It helped make me a better activist and campaigner for social causes. It taught me how to manage events and activities.
