New Music Monday: October 5, 2020
Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. There I Said It – Dirty Projectors
Recommended by: Kallie Kidder
Dirty Projectors announced earlier this year they would be releasing five EPs — each featuring a different vocalist of the art-rock group. The final EP, “Earth Crisis,” was released Thursday October 1, and features keyboardist Kristin Slipp. “There I Said It” is the shortest track on the EP but contains plenty of sass and sharp creativity in the mere one minute and 21 seconds.
2. Wonder – Shawn Mendes
Recommended by: Jenna McCarthy
This song just dropped on Friday, October 2nd as a preface for Mendes’ album being released on December 4th. It is very different from his other music. Twitter blew up over this unfamiliar sound.
3. Jara – Fleet Foxes
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
“Jara” is one of the standouts on the new Fleet Foxes album “Shore.” “Jara” is easily-accessible and oozes with warmth and purity in response to the increasingly antagonistic and tumultuous times.
4. Low – Chet Faker
Recommended by: Gracie Walter
“Low” is artist Nick Murphy’s first single under the Chet Faker project since 2015. This song is pretty groovy and definitely worth a listen.
5. Years From Tonight – Sean Nicholas Savage
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
This song is full of beautiful piano and string instrumentals. Savage’s voice is the perfect accompaniment to the tranquility of the arrangement and creates a soothing cohesiveness. The track is best played either at sunrise or at dusk for the ideal vibe.
6. Call You Out – deryk
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
New Zealand artist “deryk” released her first EP on October 1st called “WOMb.” This song was released as a single back in July. It is full of dynamics that present her voice in a terrific way.
7. Fall, Fall, Fall – CAAMP
Recommended by: Jonathon Crespin
CAAMP is a band started by childhood friends Even Westfall and Taylor Meier in Athens, Ohio. This song is perfect if you want to start your fall off right. The track was released back in August and pairs perfectly with falling orange leaves as well as pumpkin spice lattes.
8. Virtual Aerobics – Wallows
Recommended by: Jennifer Newton
The Wallows have done it again — constantly raising the bar and doing it flawlessly. I’d say I’m surprised but I know who you are (search that up if you don’t know my reference). If you started to listen to the Wallows after their hit song “Are you bored yet?” then you will like this song. It’s a little more mellow in comparison, but it’s got a great rhythm throughout.
9. Guys – The 1975
Recommended by: Alice Sukhostavskiy
This song was released during the early stages of quarantine on The 1975’s new album, “Notes On A Conditional Form.” It’s a chill, easy-going track that is good for long car rides and is worth a listen to for fans of all music genres.
10. Road to Nowhere – Talking Heads
Recommended by: Lauren Boyer
This song is such a great song to drive and sing to in the car with friends. It’s the last song on the album “Little Creatures” and is a perfect ending song to a great album. All around, it is a feel good song.
11. Villain – Kelsy Karter
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
Karter, my queen, released her debut rock album “Missing Person” last week and this track is one of the softer tracks off of it. Karter dives into where she stands now with her exe and reflects back on their past relationship through her somber lyrics. This song will 100% put you in your feels.
