Each week the content writers for KCPR.org are going to publish a playlist containing a new song recommendation from each of them.
1. my angel – Adrianne Lenker
Recommended by: Kallie Kidder
Adrianne Lenker, and Big Thief, create music I am constantly drawn to through peaceful, intricate and delicate sounds. Each piece is creative and fresh, which is why I was so excited for her recent album release. Her brand new album, “songs,” features lyric-focused, as well as instrumental-based tracks and is absolutely beautiful. “my angel” is the closer of the album and has definitely been my soundtrack for the past week.
2. Moving Men (feat. Mac DeMarco) – Myd
Recommended by: Evan Gattuso
Watch Myd and Mac DeMarco in the kooky animated music video for “Moving Men.” Myd and Mac avoid work by engaging in all sorts of shenanigans with the happy go lucky tune in the background. Thank goodness these two decided to be musicians and not movers.
3. Running – Small Crush
Recommended by: Sophia Pattison
This Bay Area band released a new single last week. It is an easy, soft listen that you can still bop your head to!
4. Lotta Love – Helado Negro, Flock of Dimes
Recommended by: Lilly Leif
This is a beautiful cover of Neil Young’s original song with a refreshing twist. Rather than a folky sound, this version is more of a bedroom pop vibe with soft vocals by Helado Negro who definitly have healing properties in all of their music.
5. love language – Ariana Grande
Recommended by: Jenna McCarthy
This is a track from Ariana Grande’s new album “Positions” which dropped on October 30th. This song is smooth and jazzier than her typical music and completely captures the listener’s attention.
6. I know – Alex Mali
Recommended by: Jennifer Newton
Mali released her EP “Phenom” in August 2020. This song is upbeat with a good rhythm and is very catchy. If you like Kehlani or Jhene Aiko you will also really like Mali’s stuff.
7. Missing You – My Brothers and I
Recommended by: Jonathan Crespin
After their two year hiatus from releasing music, My Brothers and I have released their first single “Missing You.” It can bring anyone to tears and gives us all the feels of missing a loved one or just a friend that you haven’t seen in awhile.
8. Fever – Dua Lipa & Angele
Recommended by: Alexa Kushner
This song was taken from the digital edition of Dua Lipa’s second studio album “Future Nostalgia” in 2020. It will put you in a good mood with its electronic beats and sultry tone. The song is sung half in english by Dua Lipa and half in french by Belgium singer Angele in the second verse and is a great collaboration for her second studio album.
9. Waterman – USERx, Matt Maeson, Rozwell
Recommended by: Tessa Hughes
Maeson’s vocals on the track are almost haunting compared to his prior alternative rock hits “Hallucinogenics” and “Cringe.” The song strays from his usual type with the inclusion of the Rozwell verses, as they break the pace of the chill vibe Maeson established. Despite being different, what the three artists have created on this piece is special and worth checking out.
