Here are some new releases from a multitude of genres to soundtrack your April.
PUP – “THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND”
On April 1, punk rock band PUP released their fourth studio album, “THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND.” The band has never aimed to appeal to the masses, and the singles from this new record showcase the band’s experimental and memorable sound. The band said on Twitter that this album “truly is the purest state of being” for PUP.
The Regrettes – “Further Joy”
Los Angeles based rock band The Regrettes released their third album, “Further Joy”, on April 8. The 13-track record is the band’s first release since their last project in 2019. The band has released four singles prior to this release, including catchy and addicting single “Monday” which discusses existentialism in everyday life. The Regrettes look to settle nicely into the indie-rock and pop genres with this new record.
Lucius – “Second Nature”
Six years after their last release, Lucius released their album “Second Nature” on April 8. Lead single “Next to Normal” is a funky and catchy track that encapsulates the band’s distinct sound. Lucius has collaborated with a number of artists in recent years, such as The War on Drugs, The Killers, and Black Pumas. The new record is co-produced by Brandi Carlile, who also has a feature on the album with Sheryl Crow–an indie-pop anthem titled “Dance Around It.”
Omar Apollo – “Ivory”
R&B breakthrough artist Omar Apollo released his new project, “Ivory,” on April 8. Apollo has defined his sound with smooth vocals, strong electric guitar solos and incorporating both Spanish and English lyrics. Apollo’s music has never been boxed into one single genre, and so far “Ivory” is proving to be just experimental and complex as his previous releases.
Orville Peck – “Bronco”
Masked singer Orville Peck returned to the country scene with a second studio album, “Bronco,” released on April 8. In lieu of singles, Peck released two “chapters” from the album, each song diving deeper into the lulling ambiance of American country music. This album is perfect for driving into the sunset this spring.
Syd – “Broken Hearts Club”
Sydney Bennett, formerly of band Odd Future, released another solo album titled “Broken Hearts Club” on April 8. Bennett has collaborated with top-notch artists throughout her career such as Tyler, the Creator, Lucky Daye, The Neighbourhood, and KAYTRANADA, and her new album promises a redefinition of what it means to be a creator, producer, and artist.
Wet Leg – “Wet Leg”
Rock duo Wet Leg released their self-titled debut album on April 8. Angsty lyrics and captivating melodies define the five singles the band has put out since the announcement of this album, each one exploring different themes. Wet Leg has performed on various late night shows, most recently performing their song “Too Late Now” on James Corden’s Late Late Show. This release solidified their place in the modern rock scene and defined the band’s iconic sound.
The Knocks – “History”
The Knocks will make their mark on house music with the release of their fourth studio album, “History,” on April 29. The record will feature artists such as Yoke Lore, MUNA, and Cold War Kids. The band will also be performing at the Shabang music festival in San Luis Obispo in May of this year. Their upcoming album will certainly be a soundtrack to this year’s spring and summer, with plenty of songs to dance, drive, or party to.
Toro y Moi – MAHAL
Station favorite Chaz Bear of Toro y Moi will release the band’s seventh album, “MAHAL,” on April 29. The four singles that have been released so far include the funky track “Postman” and the addicting and cyclical track titled “The Loop”, both tracks unmistakably the work of Bear. Toro y Moi will bend genres, and explore new sounds, and examine our current society with this upcoming record.
