How Dairy Creek’s Swing Time is blending golf and technology

The Dairy Creek Golf Course is using technology to attract players of all ages and skill levels with Swing Time, an interactive golf experience that blends entertainment with skill-building.
Swing Time isn’t a traditional driving range. The facility incorporates Top Tracer technology, the same tracking system used at Topgolf, to create an engaging and dynamic atmosphere. Whether participants are seasoned golfers or newcomers to the sport, Swing Time offers a unique and welcoming experience.
Josh Heptig, the San Luis Obispo County’s golf superintendent, said Swing Time has broadened the golf course’s appeal beyond typical players.
“We’ve got family reunions, we’ve got birthday parties, we’ve got all kinds of stuff that happens out here at Swing Time that we wouldn’t otherwise see at a golf property,” Heptig said.
Beyond practice sessions, Swing Time features interactive games and training tools designed to improve a player’s swing. Guests can virtually play famous courses or enjoy a golf-themed Angry Birds game, making the experience enjoyable for all ages.
Aerospace engineering junior Kyle Podgorski said that he enjoys visiting Swing Time with friends.
“My experience at Swing Time is always great,” Podgorski said. “I usually go with a bunch of my friends and we just practice our swing. I’ve gotten pretty good at driving.”
Since its opening in 2020, Swing Time has drawn thousands of visitors, showing that golf can be as much about fun as it is about the game.
