Father John Misty (Josh Tillman) performed at the Fremont Theatre with opening act Omar Velasco on Sunday, Sept. 29. Velasco kicked off the show with an acoustic set, bringing out his full band and Tillman on drums for the closing song.
Following Tillman’s unexpected appearance, he took the stage for an hour-long set that was simultaneously energetic and emotional. He frequently addressed the audience, holding several attendee’s hands mid-song. After his set, Tillman returned for a three-song encore.
Tillman released two singles this month and stated that his sixth studio album will arrive on Nov. 21.
According to one of his stagehands, the folk-rock artist stopped in San Luis Obispo in between touring with Kasey Musgraves on her “Deeper Well World Tour” because he doesn’t like catching more than two days off.
Fans can experience Father John Misty live for themselves on Oct. 4 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood
