Fall proved to be a great time for live music in San Luis Obispo, with a slate of shows from touring and local bands. From backyards to 3,000-seat venues, music was everywhere. We’ve got your fix of photos for a look into some of these shows in October and November.
Caleb Nichols at SLO Brew Rock – October 26
Caleb Nichols’ album release show in October, with openers The Bogeys and Couch Dog, was a highlight of the local talent and varying sounds in San Luis Obispo. The Bogeys got the crowd going, Couch Dog performed while dressed as Adventure Time characters and Nichols shared songs from his most recent release “Let’s Look Back” for a dedicated crowd that stuck around to the end of the night.
Check out another performance from Nichols and his band during KCPR’s first Burnt Dog Sessions — our most recent video series showcasing live in-studio performances by extraordinary local artists.
Drugdealer at SLO Brew Rock – November 1
SLO Brew Rock has become the most frequented venue for Drugdealer, the band’s ringleader Michael Collins told the audience during their most recent visit to the Central Coast. In just over a year, the band has played at SLO Brew three times, often accompanied by a comedic monologue or two from Collins.
DEVO at Vina Robles Amphitheater – November 3
Fifty years after forming in the Midwest, DEVO proved they are very much still alive with their show in Paso Robles. For what was promised to be the band’s last tour, the amphitheater was packed with DEVO fans, as lead singer and co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh paid tribute to their 50-year together.
Frankie and the Witch Fingers at SLO Brew Rock – November 4
The return of Frankie and the Witch Fingers, alongside Monsterwatch and local band Pancho and the Wizards, to SLO Brew showcased all that is good about heavy rock.
Each of the three bands has had a busy year since they shared the stage at SLO Brew in February. Frankie and Monsterwatch were on tour in Europe, while Pancho made their way onto some bigger stages, opening for levitation room, Wine Lips and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.
Mapache at SLO Brew Rock – November 9
Mapache was another band welcomed back to SLO Brew Rock for a second show this year. Their most recent stop was part of their U.S. tour in support of their most recent release, “Swinging Stars.” With acoustic harmonies, dancing crowds, feel-good songs and colorful lights the show was just as beautiful as Mapache’s last.
