Cal Poly Surprise-Opens New Chick-Fil-A Location On Campus
A temporary Chick-Fil-A location has opened up in Cal Poly’s Poly Canyon Village (PCV).
According to University Communications Specialist Aaron Lambert, this location will remain in PCV for the duration of the 2020-2021 academic school year.
“I’m actually extremely happy about this,” Lambert said.
Ethan Crivelloe, who is a member of Cal Poly’s Christian Club is also excited about the new dining option, though he understands why its opening may be controversial.
“I’m also Christian, like the president of Chick-Fil-A, and I guess the company as a whole is extremely Christian which, I can see why other people wouldn’t like it,” Crivelloe said.
While many students are no doubt excited for this new restaurant, there is also skepticism among some students regarding the company’s presence at Cal Poly
“The company is not inherently bad. I would say, it really is just the people in charge,” Ash Bruning, a member of Cal Poly’s Trans-Queer Student Union said. “The CEO has done a lot of speaking out against same-sex marriage. As a queer person, that is obviously an issue, and while I personally don’t wanna support their company, I don’t have an issue with Chick-Fil-A itself.”
For Bruining, the issue lies in the lack of food options available at Cal Poly.
“I am not particularly happy primarily because I am vegetarian and it’s already hard enough for people with restrictive diets to eat on campus. I wish I was excited but I don’t think I am. It’s disappointing but understandable,” Bruning said.
