While a bedroom is defined as “a room for seeping in,” for college students, it can be so much more than that. The bedroom is a sanctuary — a place where we study, nap, cry and vent to our roommates while sitting on each other’s floors. Our bedrooms, while personal and hidden from public view, are still a reflection of ourselves. The way that we choose to style our living space speaks volumes about how we perceive ourselves and what we deem important in everyday life.
Inspired by Adrienne Salinger’s iconic 1995 book “In My Room: Teenagers in Their Bedrooms,” this photo essay takes a look into the bedrooms of students at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Each bedroom is shown in its natural state and gives a glimpse into the personalities of college students in 2022.
