Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of The National collide to form Big Red Machine, an indie supergroup sensation for your listening pleasure.
The duo dropped a self-titled, 10-track album on August 31st.
In the writer’s humble opinion, the standout track from the release is “I Won’t Run From It.” The song sounds like if Justin Vernon took one of his more folk-style tunes, remixed it by dipping the track in some 22, A Million vocal samples, and adding a drum beat straight from The National to back it. All of it is capped off with heart-wrenching lyrics written and sung by Vernon to make the whole thing bittersweet.
This might be the one of the most interesting songs I have heard all year.
